Cameras became a permanent accessory at age ten when Gail’s parents bought her a Kodak. A few years later she inherited a used Yashika single lens reflex camera and her interest was propelled forward.
Often credited with having a good eye, Gail’s skills and artistic vision were not realized until she retired to Lexington Virginia in 2002. She then had time to spend on learning and was privileged to have the guidance of Ellen Martin, a gifted and generous local photographer.
Gail's photos have been featured on the covers of the “Visiting Lexington and the Rockbridge Area” visitors guide and the “Fine Arts in Rockbridge” booklet.
Her photographs “Blooming Magnolia” and “Iris” won awards at the 2007 Bath County Art Show, and her “Around the Bend on the Maury River” won an award in 2009. Her photograph “Rockbridge Countryside” was awarded a red ribbon in the Landscape Division at the Virginia Horse Center Art Exhibit.
Capturing the drama and interest of our natural scenery is the challenge she embraces. Gail is also drawn to documenting memories of places and experiences. Capturing the light that makes these scenes captivating is the quality that distinguishes her photography.
Greatest Inspiration: Van Gogh’s “Farmhouse in Provence.”
