For over 30 years Joe has been creating landscapes of the mountains, streams, fields and buildings of his adopted state of Virginia. His works include oil painting, watercolor, etching and
photography.

His painting style is a combination of impressionism and realism. Lighting is important in his work and he strives to paint a scene as he remembers or envisions it in the most beautiful light conditions. He has studied with Ron Boehmer, Frank Hobbs and Robert Stuart, Zoltan Szabo, Judy Betts and Roy Rudasill.

After growing up in Decatur, Georgia, he earned his BS degree in Textile Chemistry from Georgia Tech. For years he worked in the dyeing and printing industry with DuPont and Burlington Industries producing colors on textiles. He lived in Delaware, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas and for the last 35 years has resided in Lexington, Virginia. The beauty of the Valley of Virginia has been a major influence in his painting career.

His work is exhibited at The Market Gallery, Roanoke; Artists in Cahoots Gallery, Lexington; Co-Art Gallery, Staunton; Allegheny Highlands Arts Center, Clifton Forge; and area art shows where he has received numerous awards.
