I always knew I wanted to be an artist. When I was a child there were no blank pages safe from me. I scribbled on everything in my path.

I was born and raised in a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After graduating high school I worked as an executive secretary for many years but my passion for art eventually led me to another path in life. Once I discovered watercolor painting I was hooked. I took many classes and went to numerous workshops to hone my skills. My most valued learning experience however came after my husband and I moved to Annapolis, Maryland in 1990 where I studied at Maryland Hall for The Creative Arts with an impressionist painter, Lee Boynton. Lee was instrumental in teaching me how to see and interpret the effects of light on a subject.

As exciting as this new learning experience was, I had to put my love of art on a back burner when I became a mother in 1991. I was now in love with the ultimate work of art, my daughter Rachel.

Rachel and I moved to Lexington, Virginia in 2003 not long after my husband passed away. There were many things that drew us to Lexington. I was looking for a place where I could raise my child in a small, close knit, quiet community where she could pursue her love of horseback riding and I could pursue my love of art. Lexington was the perfect choice. Shortly after moving here I found myself searching for a place where I could go and just be in the moment. That’s when I found myself at Studio Eleven taking a watercolor class with Agnes Carbrey. It was then that I discovered the truly healing aspects of creativity.

Now that Rachel is in high school and college is looming on the horizon I have a newfound excitement for painting.

Being invited to become a member of Artists In Cahoots has been such an honor and I’m so appreciative of the opportunity to exhibit and sell my work.

My focus these days has been on the challenging task of painting the effects of light through translucent subjects such as flowers. Trying to capture the effects of light and shadow on and through the petals is both fascinating and daunting.

I’m up for the challenge!
