Born into a musical family whose
Mother Honor Halsey was a concert pianist, I first studied voice with
Metropolitan Opera soprano Frances Alda, but returned to my original love
of painting, begun at The Dayton Art Institute in Ohio. In Connecticut, where my husband Cyrus Brush and I raised our five children, I studied with various artists as well as at Silvermine Guild in Norwalk where I also exhibited. After moving to Vermont I had solo shows at Gallery II and Mount Ascutney Gallery in Vermont as well as numerous New England shows. My painting was interrupted by a historic preservation effort during the mid 70's for which I was awarded one of 15 National Preservation Awards by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Coached most recently by Washington & Lee Professors I-Hsiung Ju and Kathleen Olson, as well as with Robert Stuart, Carleton Fletcher, Agnes Carbrey and Betsy Dillard Stroud, my watercolors and oils continue to be influenced by the Impressionists and School of Paris painters. Most recent shows were one person shows of 40 paintings at Washington & Lee's Commerce School and a smaller show at Lexington Art Gallery. My paintings are sold at Artists in Cahoots. Awards include Best in Show at the Bath County Show in '98 and Best Flower watercolor in '99. My work is in several private, corporate and university collections in this country and abroad.
